Rich Content Editor

Features

In most items, the default text box space for a user to enter and publish content is the Rich Content Editor. The editor is designed and organized similarly to other popular word processor toolbars, but it also supports and facilitates some unique Canvas functionalities.

Let's look at some of the general features of the Rich Content Editor:

  • Familiar look and feel: The Rich Content Editor's menus and icons closely match those seen in most typical word processing programs (Edit / View / Insert / Format / Tools / Table).
Tool consolidation: To declutter the toolbar, the Rich Content Editor groups together related features.
  • The Rich Content Editor has dedicated menus and toolbar icons that allow you to rapidly link course files, photos, and documents wherever you are working.
    • File Sorting / Filtering: When adding file links, you can sort and search for them. You can use search and filtering (by date added or alphabetically by file name) to identify the files you need when providing a link to a file placed in your course site's Files area.
    • Item Publish Status: You can easily see if the item (file, page, assignment, etc.) you're linking to will be accessible to your students when you select items to link.
  • Auto-Save: If you have unsubmitted content in the Rich Text Editor, it  can be saved for up to one day in your browser's cache. In other words  if you are editing content and browse away from the page before saving, you will be able to preview and recover the auto-saved content if you return to the page and change it within one day.
Keyboard Shortcuts: For producing and modifying information, users have access to keyboard shortcuts
