Step 6: Use the "Post to" field to select the section you would like to send your announcement. By default, your announcement will be sent to all *sections. To specify the section, simply begin typing and the various sections in the course will populate. Please read the article, "How do I add a section to a course as an instructor?" Links to an external site. to learn more information about adding sections in CANVAS.

Step 7: You can attach relevant files to your announcements using the "Choose file" button.

Step 8: For sending your announcement, you have several "Options." Select the best option for your announcement.

  • Delay posting: Schedule the announcement to be published at a later date or time.
  • Allow users to comment: Selecting this option will allow your students to comment on other posts. This may apply if you want students to ask questions or make comments. The following option is also available where  "Users must post before seeing replies." This option means students need to post something before they comment on others' posts.
  • Enable podcast feed: Enable the ability to produce an RSS feed by enabling the podcast feed.  Read the article, "How do I add an external RSS feed to an announcement as a student?" Links to an external site. to learn more about RSS feeds in announcements.
  • Allow liking: Allow students to like the announcement post in Canvas.

In the event the instructor foresees that there will be several short adjustments to the announcement, the setting "Delay Posting" can be checked to avoid repeated announcement notifications. Delays of up to one hour are possible.

Step 9: Click "Save" when finished.
